 1 July 20010 – 30 June 2011

Hello and welcome to another Inner Wheel Year.

My name is Elsbeth James and it is my great pleasure to be District Chairman for District 7 for the year 2010 -2011. It is an honour to be holding this office and to represent my fellow members during this year.

It is more than 25 years since I joined the Inner Wheel Club of Blaby and I have enjoyed the fellowship and friendship enormously. During that time I have held office as President, Secretary, Treasurer and Club Correspondent. I know that the members of my Club are giving me their full support during my year in Office, and I am most grateful to them all. It would be impossible to take on this role without their support.

I was widowed in 1997. I have two adult children and 2 grandchildren. My son Philip lives with his partner in Leicestershire. My daughter Sarah, however, lives in Australia with her husband and both my grandchildren. As a result Oz is a favourite holiday destination. What would I do without my computer and ‘Skype’ to share in their lives when not actually there.

As I am also a member of the Rotary Club of Blaby, I will be the first District Chairman who has a foot in both camps. I know that some people think it controversial, but I have no conflict of interest, rather the reverse. I find that there is now a much closer link and greater support for each other between Inner Wheel and Rotary in Blaby

As for work, I have my own Consultancy Business as an Interior Designer, a job I thoroughly enjoy and it keeps me busy. My hobbies and interest include swimming, reading, travel, quizzes, the Stockmarket via an Investment Club and painting.

I have chosen to support Air Ambulance during this year and I hope to organise a District Quiz during 2011 to raise funds for this worthwhile Charity. Air Ambulance has bases in Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, as well as in Cambridgeshire which provides emergency cover everywhere in the District.

What do I look forward to most during my year as Chairman? The opportunity to visit every Club in the District and meeting the members, sharing in your Charters and Celebrations. Also, my District Rally in September is an important date in the calendar and I am looking forward to welcoming Association President Pam McConnell and I hope many members will join me to welcome her to District 7. I will also have the opportunity to represent D7 in other Districts and I will endeavour to be a good ambassador.

To all Presidents and members, I do hope that we all have a wonderful Inner Wheel Year together and I look forward to meeting you soon.

With best wishes

Elsbeth James
