Spalding

The Inner Wheel Club of Spalding currently has 30 members, 2 Honorary members and was Chartered in 1953.  It meets every second Thursday of the month at 1.30 p.m. or 2 p.m. (depending on the time of the year) usually at The Spalding Yacht Club which is a lovely venue on the side of the river Welland.

Spalding is a fast growing market town encouraging visitors in the Spring to its Flower Festival.  Visitors also enjoy seeing fields of daffodils and touring round all the local decorated churches at this time of the year.  Visitors and locals alike visit the expanding Springfields Outlet shopping centre and gardens with dancing water displays.

We are almost half way through our current Inner Wheel year which has been enjoyed by all with many interesting speakers at our meetings together with our usual ‘catching up’ with one another before and after our monthly ‘get togethers’.  Unfortunately two of our members have resigned but have been replaced by two new members, Pauline Start and Meryll Gedney with a possible third new member and a member transferring from another Club.

To us at the Spalding Club our visit to our local Birchgrove Bulb Museum was a very enjoyable and nostalgic afternoon.  We were given a talk about the history of the growing of tulip and daffodil bulbs with an accompanying slideshow.  We also went down ‘Memory Lane’ by being shown a film of past Tulip Parades which Spalding is renowned for.

Our Overseas Tea was a great success and we also had the pleasure of our District Chairman, Janice Quinn, visit us.  Following a delightful afternoon tea we were given a talk by The Revd. David Clunes about Mercy Ships which left each and every one attending in praise for all the work that is being undertaken in the Third World.

We have recently held our Christmas Fayre which was well attended by Rotarian husbands, friends and the public raising money for various charities

Below are some forthcoming dates for diaries:

14th January, 2010

13th February, 2010

18th March, 2010

Inner Wheel Day at a Member’s home

Race Evening at Pinchbeck Church Hall

Lastly all the ladies of the Spalding Inner Wheel Club would like to take this opportunity of wishing other Inner Wheel Clubs a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
