The Inner Wheel Club of Stamford Burghley meet at the Lady Anne’s Hotel, Stamford on the third Thursday of each month except August, at 7.00pm. The Club received its Charter in 1990 and currently has 35 members.

On the outskirts of Stamford stands Burghley House which was built for William Cecil, the first Lord Burghley and Lord Treasurer for Elizabeth I.  The extensive deer park in which the House stands was designed by Capability Brown and accommodates the Burghley Horse Trials every September.

2007-2008

Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Stamford Burghley have enjoyed an interesting programme for the start of President Anne Harwood’s term.

In September, founder President and member, Mary Anderton, paid a visit to the Club and was made very welcome. Robert Palmer, a member’s son, gave a very interesting and entertaining talk about his experiences of the life and customs of the people from the Ashanti region of Ghana.

In October, members heard about the history of Stamford Fairs and markets from Peter Seamer who illustrated his enlightening talk with some excellent slides.

The Rev. Edward Ghinn and his wife Susan visited in November, giving a very inspiring and informative talk on his work with prisoners, their families and prison staff in his capacity as the Chaplain of Stocken Prison.

The December meeting was a visit to the Arts Centre at Stamford to watch the Shoestring Company perform “ A Voyage round my Father”. This was preceded by an enjoyable supper at “Finnan’s Brasserie” in town.
