Towcester

The Inner Wheel Club of Towcester meet at 7.30pm on the second Monday of the month at Chantry House, Towcester. The Club received its Charter in 1999 and currently has 22 members.

Towcester’s origins can be traced back to the middle of the Stone Age and is the oldest town in Northamptonshire. In Roman times it was known as Lactodorum and was a garrison town on Watling Street which divided the Saxon Wessex from Daneslaw. After the Conquest the Normans built a motte and bailey castle and the remains are still evident. Towcester is now more famous for the Silverstone Grand Prix motor racing circuit and its racecourse.
